Prefelt Leaf Pillow Cover- Part 1

Leaves cut from prefelt and machine stitched.

Laying out the pillow cover.

After felting and drying.

A close up of the pillow's texture.

In the midst of all of my Christmas gift pillow cover making...

...I did actually manage to make one for myself! Grin.

I cut leaf shapes from prefelt...

...and machine stitched a line or seam up the middle of each one.

Using one of my favorite, variegated orange wool blends for the background...

...I then laid out the leaves in a flower-like pattern.

I wanted some sort of center for the piece...

...so I overlapped two prefelt ovals and added wiggly dreads for interest.

I really love the texture that's created when you sew seams in pre-felt...

...prior to its final felting.

I need to have a prep day sometime soon, though...

...to replenish my dwindling supply of prefelt pieces!

Next time, I'll show you the finished pillow...

...and the fabulous fabric that I used for the backing!

Hummmmm I may have to try the stitching on prefelt to see what happens. Lovely pillow.

What a great idea. I may try it. It has made a beautiful piece of felt.

Thanks, Joei and Fiona. Yes...I think it's a really fun technique.
Elis Vermeulen uses it on some of her quite excellent collars, and it really helps with the shaping, too.

Beautiful! I like to combine stitching with my felt and I'm planning on doing much more of it this year.

Love the colors, it has a Native American feel to it-very pretty.

So glad to hear that you actually wound up with one of your beautiful pillows after your pillow-making frenzy...You certainly deserved one. I'm sure all of the recipients of your felted gifts were overjoyed with your generosity.
Love the effect of the stitching on the leaves...Beautiful!!!
Big hugs,
Dawn
