"Woven" Silk, Yarn and Pencil-Roving Pillow- Part 1 of 2

Laying out layers of wool...

...from hand-carded art batts...

...and adding a 'woven' lattice of wool yarn...

                                                  ...thin strips of silk fabric...

...and pencil roving (in several colors).

The back side of the project.

                                                     Mid-way through felting...

...all but the lengths of wool yarn...

... have fully integrated into the felt...

...(but I rather like these 'wobbly bits'!) ;)

Next time: a blue suede pillow back is added. :)

"Stack and Snip" Table Topper Variations- Part 3 of 3

Laying out layers of wool roving from a batt.

Punching colored dots from sheets of commercial pre-felt.

Adding pre-felt snippets and dots to the project surface...

                                                        ...and wetting it out.

                                                    Mid-way through felting...

...the topper is trimmed into shape...

                                                  ...and the felting continues.

                                                        The project back.

The pre-felt snippets felt easily into the red wool...

...and fulling shrinks the project to its final size.

                                                   The finished project, drying.

(I'm sorry that I neglected to photograph the finished piece...

...as I was in a hurry to present it as a Christmas gift!) ;)

"Stack and Snip" Table Topper Variations- Part 2 of 3

Laying out layers of wool from a heathery batt...

                                             ...and adding pre-felt snippets...

...plus small lengths of merino yarn as accents.

Folding in the project edges for a neat appearance.

The wool yarn felts in beautifully...

...and gives each bit of pre-felt a rather leaf-like appearance.

                                                    The finished table topper.

Next time: I use more of my 'stack and snip' pre-felt pieces...

                                                          ...and add dots!

"Stack and Snip" Table Topper Variations- Part 1 of 3

Stacking four different colors of commercial pre-felt...

...and cutting them into irregular segments.

Laying out two layers of each color into a pattern...

                                                     ...and wetting them out.

Layers of lavender wool are added from a batt...

...and the project is flipped back to side one...

...in order to check the position of each pre-felt snippet.

The topper is trimmed into an irregular shape...

...following the curves of the colored bits.

                                                 Felting and fulling the topper.

                                                The finished project, drying.

                                                     A bit of hand embroidery...

                                              ...around selected segments, only...

...outlines and demarcates the color sections.

                                                         The finished piece.

Next time: more of the colored pre-felt snippets are used...

...to make a 'leaf' table topper!

...and a table runner made from a piece of vintage sari silk.

                                                         A 'rescued' project...

...and a table runner made in a friend's favorite colors.

Next time: I go back to the projects at hand.

(Thanks for taking this 'walk down memory lane' with me!)
