Geometric Flower Clutch- Part 2 of 2

The project, mid-felting...

...turned inside-out.

Checking the position of the closure loop.

                                             Fibers from the colored pre-felt...

...are beginning to migrate through the white wool...

...and the bag is becoming smaller...

                                                             ...and thicker.

                                                      Rinsing out the soap...

...and firming up the flower 'stem'.

                                                       The project blocked...

                                                              ...and drying.

                                                     Details: the closure loop...

                                                        ...embellishment...

...and the back side of the clutch.

The interior of the opened flap...

                                                         ...and the exterior.

It's just the right size for a pack of tissues, a lipstick...

...a cell phone and your keys.

"Addition-Noil" Tote With Flowers- Part 1 of 2

Pieced silk noil fabric is cut to size...

...using my resist as a template.

Each side of the resist is then covered...

...with two layers of wool roving.

The fabric is placed on side one...

...and a painter's tape grid is applied to its surface.

An additional two layers of roving are then added...

...carefully keeping the tape tips free of wool.

Flower 'blobs' are prepared from short fiber merino...

...and a rounded glass nugget is centered on each one.

The flowers are 'outlined' in pencil roving...

...and the glass pieces are covered with more short fiber merino.

                                                  Sorry for the outrageous pun...

...but having blogged about another silk noil project  recently...

...this had to be an "addition-noil" one, didn't it?!? :)

I actually made this tote first...

...and refined my technique for the 'noil and nepps' version.

Next time: I'll show you how it all goes 'pear-shaped' for a bit...

                                                     ...and then the 'fix'.

Wet-Felted 'Flower' Lampshade

Laying out white wool in the shape of a petal...

...and edging it with narrow yellow roving.

Wetting out the piece, flipping it over...

...and folding in the stray fibers for a neat edge.

                                                     Mid-way through felting.

                                                         A finished petal.

                                                       Stitching in a seam...

                                                    ...to create a central 'vein'.

                                                       The finished petals...

                                            ...arrayed around the lampshade...

...and clamped to its edge (to gauge placement).

                                                      Using a hot glue gun...

...my daughter affixed each petal to the shade...

...allowing the glue to cool and harden...

...before attaching the cord and bulb.

A view of the illuminated lampshade.

                                                    The finished light fixture...

...in all of its summery glory! :)

Union Jack 'Wrap Tie' Bag- Part 2 of 2

Making a long, twisted cord using thin lengths of roving...

...then attaching it to the bag flap.

Mid-way through felting (the project is still inside-out)...

...and, here, after turning the project 'right-side' out.

The finished bag (side one)...

...and side two...

...and shown here with the others in the series (side one)...

...and side two.

I don't know whether this finished project 'reads' as a 60's inspired bag or not...

...but it was fun to create...

...and I was happy that the strips of silk felted in so easily.

I'm also not sure whether the 'cloud' of blue tussah silk (behind the flower)...

...actually adds to the project or not...

...since it reminds me a little of a space nebula! ;)

Next time: the final wrap bag in this series...

...and (I have to admit) my favorite!
