"Squared Spiral" Clutch- Part 2 of 2

Wetting out the project...

...and protecting the patency of the loop with a narrow strip of bubble wrap.

                                                   Mid-way through felting...

...the wool is beginning to shrink and become firmer.

                                                      Removing the resist...

...and turning the project inside-out for further felting.

I like the way that the margins of the spiral...

                                          ...become slightly 'wiggly' during felting.

A hat pin holds the closure in its proper orientation...

...as the clutch is blocked and drying.

                                                   The opened clutch (inside)...

                                                               ...and out...

                                                ...and the closed clutch (back)...

                                                                ...and front.

"Squared Spiral" Clutch- Part 1 of 2

Using a slightly smaller resist than before...

...I cover side one with layers of merino roving.

                                                   The project is wetted out...

                                               ...turned over and back again...

.                                   ..and additional roving is added on each flip.

The wet roving is carefully folded back...

...following the permanent marker line on the resist.

On side two, wool is laid out only half-way up the resist.

                                                   Bright lengths of roving...

...are added to form a square spiral on the wool surface.

                                               Next time: the finished clutch!

Geometric Flower Clutch- Part 2 of 2

The project, mid-felting...

...turned inside-out.

Checking the position of the closure loop.

                                             Fibers from the colored pre-felt...

...are beginning to migrate through the white wool...

...and the bag is becoming smaller...

                                                             ...and thicker.

                                                      Rinsing out the soap...

...and firming up the flower 'stem'.

                                                       The project blocked...

                                                              ...and drying.

                                                     Details: the closure loop...

                                                        ...embellishment...

...and the back side of the clutch.

The interior of the opened flap...

                                                         ...and the exterior.

It's just the right size for a pack of tissues, a lipstick...

...a cell phone and your keys.

Geometric Flower Clutch- Part 1 of 2

Covering the resist with layers of wool roving...

...(only half-way up on side two).

Forming a spike from several lengths of pencil roving.

                                             Creating individual flower petals...

...from geometric snippets of bright pre-felt...

...and applying them to the flap of the clutch.

                                                     Forming a closure loop...

...and attaching it in the proper orientation.

                                                     Mid-way through felting...

...the design is starting to flatten and to integrate.

A thin strip of bubble wrap...

...helps to keep the loop closure patent.

                                                         Fulling the project.

                                                Next time: the finished clutch.

"Peacock Feather" Clutch- Part 2 of 2

Mid-way through felting...

...and a bit later, blocked and drying.

The back side of the project...

                                                           ...and the front.

                                                         The clutch opened...

                                                               ...and closed.

                                                        The integrated loop...

                                                               ...and spike...

                                                                 ...in use.

                                                The interior of the envelope....

                                                  ...and the finished clutch.

Next time: a slightly smaller and thicker attempt...

...with a new embellishment!
