Vancouver Trip (Fabric Store/Flea Market Purchases)- Part 6 of 6

I went a little 'notion happy'...

                             ...buying thread, zippers, velcro, bias tape and the like...

                                ...and brought home lots of patterned silk scarves...

                                     ...and silk chiffon and organza for nuno felting.

                                       It was in my 'button acquisitions' however... 

                                                     

  
                                            ...where I really went off the rails. :)

                                         

                                   I love to handle (dare I say 'fondle'?) old buttons.

                                              

                                       They each seem to want to whisper a story... 
                                           

                                ...about the garment that they used to be a part of...

                                      ...or the thrilling events or quiet moments...

                                                  ...that they mutely observed.

                                  I like to imagine that when I use them in a project...

                                       ...(and make them part of something new)...

                                           ...I allow their adventures to continue!

My Own 'Fling' Mystery Projects- Part 5 of 5

For my second purse...

                                                 ...I shortened the resist a bit...

                                       ...and encased it in pre-felt and silk gauze.

                                                  I added layers of wool roving...

                                                          ...hanging loops...

                                                           ...and a pocket.

                                               Here I am with my finished bag...

                                        ...and here is the sum of my week's work...

                                            ...(two bags and two large pre-felts)...

                                ...on display for our end of the week sharing at 'Fling'.   

                                       Once home, I cut yellow leather for straps...

                                                  ...and for the button closure.

"Caps For Sale" Hat- Part 10 of 10

Trimming styrofoam blocks...

                                                  ...to fit inside each felt cap...

                                     ...and wrapping them in clear packing tape...

                                    ...to keep them from breaking up during sewing.

                                                  Attaching the first two caps...
                                           

                                                ...by stitching them to the hat...

                                              ...with a long, doll-making needle.

                                   Additional caps are added in the same manner...

                                                ...and the colorful stack grows!

                                                I use a sharp, curved needle...

                                ...to stitch one hat to the next (around the edges)...

                            
                                   ...and string an 'X' of monofilament fishing line...

                  ...to help keep the pile vertical, despite its unwieldy proportions.

                              The buttons that hold the moustache strap in place...

                                      ...allow the hat to be taken off with ease...

                                        ...and the magnets in the monkey arms...

                                        ...help to hold the hat in place during wear.
