Removing the resist...
...mid-way through felting.
Here's a 'visual' of the shrinkage! :)
This photo of Fiona and I is for Dawn...
...who tries to turn all of my felt projects into hats! :)
The finished lampshade.
The small slit that I cut in order to remove the resist...
...plus a couple of enlarged holes...
...were the only entry points available...
...for stuffing it, in order to block it.
In all, I used two inflatable Gertie balls, a pool noodle...
...and a number of cloth placemats and napkins.
(Here it is, stuffed and drying...suspended by a hanger.)
While removing the stuffing materials (once dry)...
...the felt stretched a little, forming a couple of slightly misshapen holes.
Luckily, this side faces the wall...so they're not visible.
(Doesn't it resemble the asteroid in Le Petit Prince?!?)
To complete the shade...
...the smaller, spherical part is 'tucked into' the larger, pierced part...
...and the midline is hand-stitched to the metal frame.
Now, installed and illuminated...
...my lamp provides a welcome glow in a dark corner of the studio!
Next time: photos of the illuminated lamp at night!

Your post made my day..such a wonderful 'hat', and a great way of storing it, too. How clever...a hat that doubles as a lamp ... Now, why didn't I think of that? ;-)
Wonderful photo of you and Fiona....Can feel the affection just by looking at it. Hope that you're both having a great day.
Big hugs,
Dawn
Simply a perfect home decor. Love the style and the way of making. Is the curtain of the last pic also a wool felt piece?
Its beautiful!
Dawn-I thought you would appreciate that photo!! ;)
Terriea-Yes! I blogged about them here: http://woollove-functional-fiberart.blogspot.com/2012/03/wet-felted-studio-curtains-part-2-of-2.html

Thanks, Rachel!!
It looks wonderful Heather! An absolutely perfect touch in your studio!
I love the photo of you and Fiona :) and the asteroids :)
Looking forward to the illuminated photo!

p.s. it must be HUGE to get all of that in there for blocking!
xx
Thanks, Deborah! (I really 'shoved' it in there while it was drying, so it would keep its shape once dry.) :)
