The finished bag embellishment.
A portion of colorful 'reptile skin'...
...and again, here, in close-up.
Using a leather punch...
...I made 'stitching holes' in a handmade leather strap...
...and attached it to the purse with bright pink silk yarn.
The is all that remains of my original 'grid' layout. :(
I used earth magnets as fasteners at the mid-point of the bag.
The finished purse...
...being as oversized as it is...
...quite overwhelmed the appearance and utility of its single leather strap.
To improve both looks and functionality...
...I added a second strap (in brown)...
...and fused them using knots of silk yarn.
With a bit of craft glue and clamping...
...I eliminated the gaps between the knots...
...for a more streamlined look.

Such a big project to finish it. Wonderful texture, color and design. Your detailed steps are great help to understand the complicated procedures. Amazing you're !
Thanks, Terriea! It WAS a large purse and lots of work, but I made a second one (smaller) that I'll blog one day soon, so it was good practice. :)
I love all the multicoloured touches on this! The tassles are really cute!
What is the size? It looks pretty big..
I haven't tried earth magnets yet.. will have to have a look at them xoxo
Deborah-It was quite huge...something over two feet tall, because even folded in half with the strap in the middle, it was still a larger than usual purse. :)
KBG- I'm glad you like it!!
Kudos on your “larger than usual” purse! Very well-planned and executed project, and a great alternative to using animal skin.
Sunny--Thanks so much!
What a fabulous effect!
