Extra Large 'Reptile Skin' Purse- Part 1 of ?

Covering the resist with a layer of wool roving...


                                                ...repeating it on side two...



                                   ...and adding a layer of cotton scrim to each side.



                                    Brown wool roving is added to the resist edges...



                                                    ...wool stripes are drawn...



                       ...and, finally, a checkerboard is formed on each side of the bag.



                                        White wool is used to fill in the open areas...



                                              ...and the project is wetted out.


                          The flanged bottom is treated in much the same manner...



                                    ...with one bright addition: a layer of red wool. :)



                        Next time: variegated roving is added to the body of the bag...

                                      ...and the 'reptile skin' design is begun.

Rachel--Sadly, you'll see that this grid experiment doesn't go very far. It was meant to show as 'shadows' beneath the reptile skin, but it really is only visible inside the bag at the bottom. (Sigh.)
