'Double Infinity' Scarves

One of my finished knitted rectangles...

...prior to stitching it to itself to form an infinity scarf.

I made one in each of my twins' favorite colors...

...but in the same yarn (Mushishi)...

                                                 ...and style (straight knitting)...

                                                       ...for two happy girls!

Felted Infinity Scarf Made From Fiber Leftovers

Hand-carded batts from various leftover bits of fiber.

Laying out a portion of the carded fiber to form a large rectangle...

...in preparation for making a pre-felt.

Because I used so many colors in the batt preparation...

...depending on how you wear this scarf...

                                                            ...it has a different 'look'!

(Note: the large basting stitches were removed after this photo was taken)

                                                                 The finished scarf.

While my felting friends were visiting...

...we decided to play around with preparing and using handmade pre-felts.

                                           Remembering this project...

...we set out to make a couple of 'pierced' infinity scarves.

Unfortunately, I felted this one a bit too long before making the cuts...

...and got slits, rather than oval holes this time. :(

I do like the way that the colors change, though...

...because it makes for quite a versatile scarf!

Warm (Knitted) Winter Cowl

From a small ball of blended wool and synthetic yarn...

...I made a soft, spongy cowl!

The variegated colors are so pretty...

                                                                          ...and varied...

...that I find myself wearing it with practically everything! :)

I used a darning needle and the leftover yarn...

...to stitch the finished rectangle into a circle...

...and with the weather we've had lately...

...I've gotten to wear it often!

Felting Retreat With Arrowmont Friends- Part 2 of 2

Some of our felt experiments.

Lattice scarves, infinity scarves made with pre-felt...

...centipede scarves, mittens and detritus totes.

I think that my vegetarian meals...

...were a bit of a surprise (at first) for my omnivore friends! :)

We experimented with lots of fun techniques and fabrics...

...open-weave linen and wildly patterned silk chiffon!

Kiki and Lorin's finished pre-felt and fabric totes...

                                                                 ...are really wonderful!

What a terrific week of felting and friendship!

(I can't wait for next year!!)

'White Christmas'(!) Scarf and Custom Shoelaces

Pinning my knitted scarf to an interlocking foam floor mat...

                                                      ...and stitching the ends together...

                                                           ...to form an infinity scarf!

                                                             My beautiful friend, Susan...

...modeling the two ways to wear her Christmas scarf! :)

I knitted a long rectangle from synthetic boucle yarn...

...then stitched it together to form an infinity scarf.

(Although it looks white, it's actually a very pale lavender in color!)

                                          ************************************************************

Folding one-and-a-half-inch bias tape in half...

                                                            ...and sewing it together...

                                                     ...to produce custom shoelaces! :)

                                        Following this wonderful video tutorial...

...I fashioned lengths of continuous bias tape (for a sewing project)...

...then used the leftover tape to craft custom shoelaces!

Next time: I'll show you the sewing project that started it all. :)

Experimental Knitted Projects

 I knitted a long rectangle...

                                                              ...from hairy synthetic yarn...

...stitched it together at the short ends...

...and a narrow infinity scarf was born!

Using silk yarn in two colors...

...I tried to puzzle out how to change colors, mid-project...

...but gave up when the piece was only washcloth sized!

(P.S. Tying knots may not be the best route!)  :)

Using yarn made with 94% wool...

...but blended with some sort of stretchy, synthetic fibers...

                                                       ...I fashioned another infinity scarf.

It won't surprise any of my regular readers...

...that the way I approach my nascent knitting projects...

...is just as experimental a method as the one I used when I was a beginning feltmaker! :)

Using yarns of different materials and thicknesses from my stash...

...and using a straight 'knit' stitch...

..I'm seeing what kinds of functional objects I can make...

...from different sized balls of yarn!

Next time: the joy of blocking. :)

My (First Ever) Knitted Infinity Scarf!

The finished (flat) scarf...

...knitted up in self-striping yarn...

...which seems kind of...well...magic to me!

One section is teal...

...one chartreuse...

...one grey-green...

...and each is dotted with random, slubby bits of white silk!

Once finished...

...I whipstitched the ends of the scarf together...

...to form a circle.

(This scarf is not going to fall off and get lost!)

As some of you know...

...I recently taught myself to knit by way of internet videos.

Although I'm still a complete novice...

...and despite the fact that this scarf is merely straight knitting (no fancy stuff!)...

...I'm rather proud of the finished article. :)

This yarn is absolutely lovely to knit with...

...so much so, that I bought another colourway for a second project!

(You may remember Mushishi yarn from this project...

...a felted notebook cover.)
