Assembling the necessary materials...
...(among them, a printed and sequined cotton skirt...
...and a piece of bright red commercial pre-felt).
Tracing around the resist (on the wrong side of the fabric)...
...to make a cutting line.
Drafting a paper template...
...for the purse bottom.
Placing pre-felt squares against the resist...
...and under the 'design side' of the fabric.
Covering the project with a layer of Salt Spring Island wool roving...
...from my sweet friend, Fiona.
Wetting out the project...
...and flipping it to side two.
Sorting through my fabric stash, recently...
...I found a skirt that I had worn in 'another life'. :)
Thinking that it might make an interesting bag...
...I decided to try nuno felting with it!
I soon discovered, however...
...that this project had a 'mind of its own'!!
Next time: I cover the extended bag bottom with pre-felt.

Very pretty pattern of the cotton skirt. It looks dense but wondering how it felt. Eager to see the next post.
Terriea--Too dense, as it turns out! I have heard that you can get nearly any fabric to felt (including denim!), but rubbing that long doesn't seem enjoyable to me, so I don't think I'll be the one to prove it. :) This is one of those projects which became more than the sum of its parts, though...so stay tuned! XX
I can't wait to see this project progress.
Andrea--Hahaha...a 4-part post is a trial, isn't it?!? :)
Love the fabric Heather (you always have such gorgeous fabric!) and the little red prefelt squares :)
xx
Deborah-The fabric is cool, isn't it?!? I wore that skirt exactly once while wearing maryjane shoes, little white lace anklets and carrying a bright pink, patent leather purse. Can you even imagine?!?! :)
