A Plethora of Peculiar Projects- Part 5 of ? (Cameo Slippers and Multiple-Resist Bag)

Adding additional fiber to each slipper...

...with a final layer of Hog Island wool...

...for extra soft sponginess!

Unfortunately, as I was laying out the last layers...

...I got distracted (or a little 'cocky'?)...

...and neglected to mark the cutting side on each slipper...

...and this was the end result! Waaaaah!

I did like the embossed-looking result, though...

...so I'll try to pay a bit more attention if I try it again! :)

****************************************************************
This is a multiple-resist purse that I started in Portugal.

It was to have three of these flap-like purse sections...

...but the center one sagged...

...and I couldn't figure out a work-around.

My solution?

I removed the center 'flap' and stitched up the gap...

...then promptly lost interest in ever finishing it...

...so here it languishes! :)

At the end of October...

...after the hustle and bustle of my eldest daughter's wedding has subsided...

...I'll be featuring a giveaway of several of my unfinished projects.

This grey bag will be among them...

...so if you'd like to finish it off for your own use...

...stay tuned!! :)

A Plethora of Peculiar Projects- Part 4 of ? (Cameo Slippers)

Cutting out initials...

...from a thick section of finished felt...

...plus two ovals from a piece of black pre-felt.

Needle-felting commercial pre-felt over each initial...

...for a cameo-like appearance.

Positioning the ovals on my slipper resists...

...then flipping them over before adding any fiber...

...(to work inside-out).

Covering the resist with wool roving.

With lots of finished felt scraps lying about...

...I'm always looking for a 're-purposing' project!

For these slippers...

...I decided to reclaim bits of thick, finished felt...

...by using them as bas relief in the embellishment!

Next time: a disaster occurs...

...and lessons are learned for the future! ,)

'Felt United' Seaweed Tote- Part 3 of 3

The partially felted project...

...after making cuts for the handles.

(A few stitches temporarily reinforce the denser bit of blue knitting.)

The finished tote bag...

...blocked and drying.

Its lace-like knitted embellishments...

...reminiscent of seaweed!

The yarn felted easily and completely into the fiber during felting...

...and any knitting errors are long forgotten! :)

The thin, interior flaps provide peace of mind...

...yet open out easily...

...for quick access to the bag's contents!

Happy Felt United Day to all of you!!!!

Next time: my 'Peculiar Projects' series resumes.

'Felt United' Seaweed Tote- Part 2 of 3

Applying a thin strip of plastic for a resist...

...and laying out a narrow ridge of felt.

Folding it in along the bottom (unattached) side for a nice, neat edge.

Rolling three strands of pencil roving together to make thin cords.

Attaching one cord to the center of each flap.

Turning the partially felted piece right-side out.

A close-up of the lacy knitted texture.

A view of side two...

...and of the tote bottom.

Oftentimes, when I'm carrying an open-top tote bag...

...I feel like its contents are a little 'exposed'.

With no zippers or barriers to the outside world...

...things can fall out or 'go missing'.

The addition of flaps below the handle...

...but high enough in the tote bag to allow for storage...

...seemed the perfect answer!

Next time: the finished bag...

...with photos of the interior flaps.

'Felt United' Seaweed Tote- Part 1 of 3

Placing free-form knitted pieces onto the resist...

...and pinning them into place...

...in an 'open-weave' fashion...

...using the surface of an interlocking foam floor mat as an anchor.

Covering side one with wool roving...

...then wetting and turning the piece to side two...

...and pinning on additional knitted bits.

Adding wool roving...

...and wetting out side two...

...then folding in both top edges.

I'm taking a break from my 'Peculiar Projects' series...

...in order to celebrate Felt United with all of you!

Water is this year's theme...

...and I decided to take it in a direction that I have before...

...deep under the sea. :)

***********************************************************************************
One boring Saturday afternoon recently...

...I taught myself to knit by watching several Youtube videos(!)

Because my knitted pieces are to be used as embellishment for felted items...

...I felt no pressure to 'get it exactly right'...

...and it was (and continues to be) surprisingly enjoyable!!

Go ahead and say "you told me so" you knitters!

(You know who you are!!)  :)

Next time: I fashion an interior flap for security.

A Plethora of Peculiar Projects- Part 3 of ?

Placing strips of variegated pre-felt...

...onto an irregularly shaped resist.

Covering the pre-felt with superfine merino roving...

...and adding a small flap.

After flipping the resist to side two...

...adding additional pre-felt strips and roving.

A thin plastic resist is added to make an interior pocket.

Except...

...it never quite turned into a purse!

It got diced up...

...machine stitched...

...and turned into a silverware caddy!

Even though I started out with the most luscious roving...

...and the best intentions...

...this purse never really took off. :(

So...when looking for a way to wrap and store a set of table knives...

...I remembered this neglected piece of felt.

I did a little measuring and stitching...

...added a velcro tab...

...and 'Bob's your uncle'! :)
