Folding silk gauze and clamping it into place...
...then cutting rectangular 'windows' in the fabric.
Placing the snipped silk on the resist surface...
...and filling some of the openings with embellished pre-felt sections...
...or bisecting them with lengths of silk selvedge.
Covering the layout with a layer of plum wool...
...and then a second layer...
...made up of orange and yellow stripes.
The resist is flipped to side two...
...pre-felt and silk selvedge embellishments are applied...
...and additional layers of wool roving are added.
Because I am working with a 'flange' at the bag bottom...
...I make sure to keep a strip of painter's plastic...
...between my two bottom flaps.
To form crisply shaped handles...
...I cover a resist in wool roving...
...felt it to the pre-felt stage...
...and then cut it into two (removing the resist).
The handles are positioned...
...between layers of roving...
...and additional wool layers are added.
Next time: the finished bag.
