Covering the resist with wool...
...using painter's plastic to keep the 'flange' bits from felting in.
An eye is added...
...and then an ear.
Because it was a fantasy mask class...
...I spent quite a lot of time on my design...
...and artistic inspirations:
Adding pieces of silk to the wool surface...
...criss-crossing these areas with painter's tape...
...and then covering them with additional wool...
...for a 'cracked earth' effect.
Dyed silk hankies are added...
...for surface 'sheen'.
I continue to work on Dollie's features...
...adding an eyebrow and a line of silk cocoon 'jewels'...
...(which will later be buried, felted and then partially exposed.)
More colored wool...
...and silk fabric pieces are added to the second side...
...where the whole process is repeated.
It was a terrific workshop...
...and my fellow classmates maintained their joyful spirits...
...despite the fact that it was three full days of hard work!

Rachel- It was a fun process and Dollie is definitely a conversation starter! (She lives atop a coat rack in my dining room!)
