Mid-way through felting...

                                           ...I cut "U-shaped" slits for the handle.

                              ...I hand-stitched the surface design sample from Part 1...

                                             ...to one naked section of the tote.

                                      I also added hand embroidery and beads...

                                         ...to some of the other denuded areas.                                

                                           Next time: a riot of embellishment...

  Making a surface design sample with wool batts...                                 

                                ...a layer of hand-dyed silk, and small foam resists.       
                                                                               

Placing selvedge, string and yarn onto the surface of the main resist...

                                          ...and covering it with a layer of roving...

                                            ...in a number of bright colors.

                                             Adding design elements to side two...

                                      ...folding in the rays of wool from the front...

                                  ...and covering this side with wool roving, as well.

                               Wetting out side one and turning down the top edge...

 

                                               ...adding more wool to each side...

                                         ...and beginning the felting process.

Rubbing the scarf to complete the fusion of wool to silk...

...and to transform the scissor snips into holes.

                                Cutting even slits into the partially felted project...

                                                 ...to make a fringed edge.

                                      No shawl pin is needed for a secure closure.
