"The Starry Night" Purse- Part 2 of 2

The finished bag (front)...

...and in close-up.

(I think that this photograph makes it look like one big eye and a funny bulbous nose!!)

The bag back...

...and a detail of the dyed tussah silk additions...

...so shimmery!

I used a vintage button to close this purse...

...and I did hand-stitch the flap (below) closed...

...prior to giving it as a gift.

(Sorry-no photo.)

The 'resist twins' shown together...(fronts)...

...and backs

So, there you have it...

...two different purses made from the same resist.

It's interesting, isn't it, how slightly different wools and lengths of felting...

...so altered the size and shape of each bag?!?

ooooh, I LOVE this bag too.
That style is very eye catching and so is the design on both purses.

The recipient should be very pleased with the gift.

It's the details of how each type of fibre or thread responds to our work with it that make working with textiles so endlessly fascinating, isn't it!

I love your work. This is amazing.

Rachel--You are so right!! It's magic, isn't it?!?

This is luuurvly.. as is its resist twin! I love them both.

You are right.. you could make a fabulous cartoon face bag (maybe with raw fleece hair) on this resist :)

Dawn--Thank you so much!
Deborah--Thanks! Hahaha...I have one that you haven't yet seen that kind of looks like a hairy horse face (different resist, though)!! :)

Stunning! I love that shade of blue!

The two purses together do look like twins, but each with amazing character!

With all that cutting and trimming, you must generate a lot of fabric and fiber scraps. What do you do with them? (I can't imagine you tossing them.) Maybe that's another tutorial ;-)

"Starry Night" is my most favorite painting, so I really appreciate the handbag you made! It's lovely!

I'll be at MD S&W early on Saturday. I go as close to 0900 as possible. I go as early as I can every year ... I'm just convinced that if I go later, all the good stuff will be gone!

Emily--Thank-you!
Vivian--I do keep my finished felt scraps and make different things with them. :) I have spun them (along with roving) into art yarn, have done this: http://woollove-functional-fiberart.blogspot.com/2011/02/two-projects-made-from-leftover-felt.html and this: http://woollove-functional-fiberart.blogspot.com/2010/11/terrible-top-purse-repurposed-part-2.html
...but Vivian, did you notice that I was talking to YOU, here? http://woollove-functional-fiberart.blogspot.com/2012/04/pre-felt-centipede-scarf-tutorial-part_15.html (Giggle)
Beth--I used to try to be the first one there on Sat., but then 3 years ago or so it was SO hot and crowded that I vowed never to attend on the first day again.
Alas...we will meet another time! :)
