Pink "Retirement" Purse- Part 1 of 2

Carded batts and merino roving for accents.

Rolling 'poufs' of merino roving...

...and placing them on the resist.

Working from the outside-in (as usual)...

...and covering the poufs with sections of pink batts.

The black roving stripe is my 'cutting line'...

...so I don't get confused and cut open the wrong side!

After felting and turning the bag right-side out...

...here's the front (with black cutting line visible)...

...and the back.

I have a friend and co-worker who retired last week...

...after a 'mere' 43 years on the job!! :)

She's an amazing, energetic woman...

...and I'm sure that the next phase of her life will bring her great joy.

Because her favorite color is pink...

...I assembled merino roving in several rosy hues...

...and carded bright pink batts for the background, as well.

I pulled off small sections of roving and narrowed the ends into points...

...then placed them on the resist.

After covering them with sections of the pink batts...

...I worked the piece until it was fully felted.

Next time: the finished purse...

...with a ladybug fabric lining! :)

Andria--Thanks! It was fun, working in pinks for a change. I don't do that many 'pink projects'!! :)

Heather... it's always like magic. I see these puffs of fleece layed out and think, "What in the world is she doing this time?" Then poof! Magic. :-)

It's incredible how the purse starts out as glorious bits of fluff and eventually emerges as a purse. Wow!

Wow, how interesting to catch a glimpse of the process, I've never tried this type of felting. I'm sure your friend will be overjoyed to own such a unique piece.

W-S--It IS kind of magical, isn't it?!?
Beth--It's a hard color to capture on film. You may get a better idea of the real color in Part 2 on Sun.
TH-Oh, do try some wet-felting sometime. It is addictive!! :)
