Dorothy's Birthday Pillow

My very first friend, ever, was named Dorothy.

She lived 3 doors down and she was almost exactly my age.

For years, we were absolutely inseparable...

...and then for years, we weren't.

But we always remained friends.

For the last 25 years or so, we've been very close, again...

...even though we live states apart.

This is a woman who knows all of my secrets, my failings, my suffering and my joys...

...and she loves me despite everything.

Her love for me is the very definition of 'grace'...

...and I would do anything in the world for her.

So, what I did do, in order to help her celebrate her &#?$?%**%th birthday...

...was to make her a pillow and then meet her at her favorite vacation spot in Ohio for a couple of days.

What fun we had!!

Her pillow was made using a resist...therefore, no sewn-on backing was needed. Yay!

I used tan wool batts, tufts of brightly-colored fiber and some lengths of pale pink pearl cotton.

I sewed a 'flange' around the perimeter...

...and stuffed it with some more of that wonky wool roving that I have.

Did you notice the little heart in the 'y' of her name?? :)

The pillow is adorable. I'm glad you stopped by my blog and took the time to comment. I'm excited to look around your posts. It seems we have a lot in common.

Your pillow for Dorothy is just beautiful. What did you use as a resist??

Thanks, girls!! :)
Kathy: I used a piece of foam floor underlayment for the resist. (I bought a huge roll of it at a home and garden store and I use it for everything!)
