Long-Limbed Creature for Hayes- Part 5

The finished creature...

                                                    ...has a long, pointy nose...

...and 'jangly' metal bits attached to its extremities.

                                                        The bright wool yarn...

...felted into quite a bold hairstyle...

...and gives ze a rather rakish appearance!

                                                   Quivering with anticipation...

                                                     ...for the baby's arrival!

                                                   "Well, hello there, creature...

...you look good enough to eat!"

Hayes found the metal rings fascinating...

...and especially enjoyed chewing on ze's pointy nose.

                                                                Delicious! ;)

Long-Limbed Creature for Hayes- Part 4

After fulling the project...

...the creature is gently pulled into shape...

...and a few strands of bright wool yarn are used to create 'hair'.

                                                     After soaking and rinsing...

...the toy is stuffed with small pieces of bubble wrap...

                                                            ...for blocking.

Once the exterior is dry, the bubble wrap is removed...

...and the felted doll is allowed to dry fully.

                                                                  "Whee!!"

Spongy wool roving is used as stuffing...

...and care is taken to softly, but firmly...

                                                   ...fill all of its appendages.

                                                   Strong beading thread...

...is used to close the opening in the back.

                                             Next time: the finished creature...

                                            ...and my grandbaby's reaction! :)

Long-Limbed Creature for Hayes- Part 3

Making two loops wound with aqua roving...

...and threading them with several metal binder rings...

...before attaching them to the doll.

                                                       Rubbing the project...

                                                  ...to begin the felting process.

Painter's plastic is used to keep the nose from felting into the face.

                                                              Rolling begins...

                                                    ...albeit a bit unnervingly! ;)

                                                 The wool begins to shrink...

                                                        ...and become firmer.

After the project passes the 'pinch test'...

...a slit is cut in the back...

                                                 ...and the resist is removed.

Next time: the felting and fulling continue...

...and I give the creature a bit of hair!
