Red Bag With Complicated Closure- Part 3

The finished bag...

...drying in the cool Rocky Mountain air...

...and modeled by the charming and delightful, Buff Palm.

During felting, the wool yarn and pre-felt bits...

...'melt' into the body of the bag.

                                                          The bag interior...

                                                            ...with pocket.

The combination of a short loop (on one side of the bag)...

...and a long loop on the other...

                                             ...combine to form a 'complicated'...

...and secure closure for this bag.

Red Bag With Complicated Closure- Part 2

The long cord is attached to side one of the bag...

                                     ...and, after carefully taking measurements...

...the shorter cord is added to side two.

                                                             During felting...

...the merino yarn and pre-felt additions...

                                               ...'become one' with the felt...

...and both closure loops become integrated, as well.

As the rubbing and rolling continue, the resist is removed...

...and the project is oriented in various ways...

                                              ...and is even turned inside-out...

                                                            ...for further felting.

                                                          The finished bag...

...hanging to dry with my 'green pumpkin' project.

Next time: the complicated closure in use!

Red Bag With Complicated Closure- Part 1

Making marks for later closure placement...

...and fashioning a rounded pocket resist.

Placing a layer of roving and silk gauze onto the resist surface...

...then adding the pocket resist and a layer of silk gauze.

Covering side one of the resist...

...with layers of colorful merino wool.

After flipping the project to side two...

                                                  ...layers of wool are added...

...and additional layers of wool are added...

...to both sides of the project...

...before the bag is wetted out.

                                                  Lengths of merino wool yarn...

...and snippets of pre-felt in various colors...

...are applied to the bag surface.

Cords are prepared for the closure...

...one short one and one long one...

...and are wrapped with wool yarn.

Next time: the cords are felted...

...and attached to the bag surface.

Yarn-Embellished Pre-Felt Table Toppers- Part 4 of 4

The finished topper...

...with its assertive green base. :)

The texture of the felted-in rings and circles...

...is quite visible on the project back...

...and if you look closely, you'll see the multi-colored cotton dots...

...that are embedded in the green wool.

A side-by-side comparison of my two new table toppers...

...plus a few photos with other, earlier toppers...

                                                          ...just for fun! :)

Yarn-Embellished Pre-Felt Table Toppers- Part 3 of 4

Using the same embellished, pre-felt circles...

...but swapping in a bright green wool base (with cotton dots)...

                               ...a second yarn-embellished, pre-felt topper is begun!

A margin of base wool is left around the rings and circles...

                                        ...for an irregular, finished appearance...

...and, as before, the extra wool is used to reinforce the topper edges.

                                                   Mid-way through felting...

...the project is starting to come together...

...as the pre-felt rings and circles...

...are easily incorporated into the base wool.

                                                 Next time: the finished project...

...plus comparison photos with several of my other recent table toppers!
