European "Feltmaker to Feltmaker Hand-Off"- Part 1 of ?

My cozy fleece coverlet at Elis's.

Dawn and I enjoying wine and chocolates.

(For Dawn, more chocolate and less wine...for me, the reverse!) Grin!

On our first day there, we took a trip to a local vocational college...

...where Elis endeavored to assist mechanically-inclined young men...

...with an art assignment (designing a kinetic sculpture).

                                                       Elis's wonderful studio...

                                                   ...where felt magic happens!

This massive resist was used to make some of the felt pieces...

...that will be displayed in Elis's latest exhibit, Confluence.

(Make plans to go, if you're able...it's going to be spectacular!!)

                                                          Our 'family photo'...

...in the style of the Addams Family...

...and a portrait of the artist at home!

                                                  Eating fries the 'Dutch' way...

                                           ...with satay- and curry-mayonnaise!

Dawn and I rode bikes to the pub one evening...

...and yes...we even managed to ride them safely home, afterwards!! :)

                                                A yummy cappuccino confection.

                                                       Visiting Veere, NL...

...and viewing this interesting light installation...

                                                         ...beautiful local homes...

                                                               ...shops...

                                                                   ...and ships.

We were joined for the day by another Dutch feltmaker and good friend,  Kim.

Happily, an art show was being held that day...

                                                   ...in this beautiful space...

...featuring super sculptures by Aris Roskam...

                                                                  ...lovely music...

...and wonderful, individualistic portraits by Wilma Geerts.

                                      At  Feltfull last summer...

...I made friends with several wonderful feltmakers who reside in the UK...

...and a plan was 'hatched' for a visit there, this spring!

When the Edinburgh portion of my plans fell through quite suddenly...

...I decided to begin my journey with friends in The Netherlands, instead!

Next time: I take a train to the Dutch 'Bible Belt'...

...and make a surprising (and tiny) new friend! :)

The Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Friends, Felt and "The Future" in The Netherlands

My friend Nienke and I become part of an exhibition here...

...where even coats worn by visitors become an art installation!

Claes Oldenburg's giant screw sculpture graces the lawn of this museum.

Learn more about his original concept here.

I spent a wonderful day with a dear friend...

...the exquisite and spectacularly talented feltmaker, Elis Vermeulen...

...and several of her equally genetically blessed family members!

I made friends with one kind of 'baby' while I was there...

...and ate muisjes to help celebrate the birth of my host's new 'human' granddaughter, too! :)

Here's a photograph of the darling wee one (only one day old!) in the felted baby 'cocoon' that we made for her.

We stopped for a Belgian Tripel in this cheerful Rotterdam bar...

...and discovered that it doesn't take too many of those to feel rather...erm...cheerful, yourself!

A view of the future(?)...

...my "Beam me up, Scotty" shower at the Citizen M airport hotel in Schiphol.

Next time: lots of photographs from another Dutch museum...

...including a number of masterpieces by Van Gogh.

My Three Hats...And Friends!

Here I am in my avant garde 'newsboy' cap...

...flanked by dear friends Elis and Dawn (the blonde goddesses)!

A close-up of the same hat...

...and, here, from another angle.

This one looks like psychedelic cinnamon buns...

...or what Elis calls 'wasp nests' in Dutch!

My third hat reminds me a bit of a science fiction monster...

...like a Dalek mutant!

All three hats shown together...

...in (as one friend said) my usual subtle colourways! Grin.

P.S. The beautiful dyed silk scarf I'm wearing in the first photo...

...was a gift from the delightful Terriea.

A Plethora Of Protuberances- Part 2 of 2

A happy smile is shared between classmates...

...and a hat is pinned for hemming.

Here, Sue's "Warrior Goddess" hat gets a little TLC from Elis.

We joked that many of our hats were 'business in the front'...

...'party in the back'! :)

Jan's second hat looked a lot like a mouse at this stage in the process!

Our happy and satisfied crew...

...and the colorful 'fruits' of our labor!
