I call this my "just right" hat...
...because the weight and density of the finished felt is finally as I think it should be.
Since I made this as a gift, without an accurate head measurement...
...I dared not trim or band the opening in any way...
...in case it needed to be stretched, or was already on the large side.
If I were to make another one (with measurements)...
...I think I would band it with a strip of coordinating fabric or felt...
...for a more finished appearance.

Goodness, I'd be anxious about making something like that without measurements - did it turn out the right size?
Love the orange clouds on the underside Heather! I am sure your friend will love it.
You always use such lovely vibrant colours :)

p.s. I think the brim looks absolutely fine as it is :)

Wow berety odlotowe. Ten model i tak pozostanie u mnie bod nazwą Wąsy Walesy. Naprawdę twoje wzory dają mi dużo inspiracji. I mam tez pytanie , czy robiłaś jakieś większe torby z filcu?
Rachel--I think so, but I haven't yet seen photos of my friend wearing it. :) A 5 inch diameter opening is pretty standard unless you have a really small head. Since felt is malleable, it should stretch to fit, even if her head measurement is larger than mine.
Deborah--Thanks so much!! I didn't really like the little 'bumps' in the edge of the cut out opening, but I really feared making it too large for the wearer, and I think they do stretch out a bit when it's worn.
Karolina--I always eventually go back to purses and bags! :)
nice hat!!
Kim--Thanks!! XXO-
Good shape and color.
Terrie--Thank-you! I loved your 'half knitted' one!
