Acid-Dyed, Pre-Felt Male/Female Scarf Set- Part 1 of 2

Making a long white pre-felt rectangle...

...and letting it dry.

Preparing to cut the pre-felt lengthwise into two.

Cutting slits into one pre-felt section, prior to felting.

Nylon stitches turn each long rectangle into an 'infinity scarf'...

...by forming it into one continuous circle.

Placing bubble wrap within each circle of pre-felt...

...helps to keep it from felting together.

Mid-way through felting...

...and during the fulling process.

Yes...sighhhh...I'm afraid that we're back to scarves again! Grin.

This set of two pre-felt scarves...

...is another take on these.

Using soft, white merino roving...

...I laid out a large rectangle of wool and turned it into a pre-felt...

...by rolling it 50 times from each of the four ends, squeezing out the water and letting it dry.

Next, I cut the dried pre-felt into two long strips...

...and hand-stitched each of them into a 'ring'.

For the more feminine version of the scarf...

...I cut slits into the pre-felt prior to felting.

(The masculine version was left 'as is'.)

Next time: the finished scarves...

...in all of their dyed glory! :)

Looking good. The slits do make that scarf look "lighter" somehow, don't they!

I get lost in some of the terms. What is pre-felt? It seems to me you are felting it if you are wetting and rolling it. Is this somewhere in the middle of the process? Forgive my ignorance, but the only felting I understand is throwing my knitted wool into the top-loading washer and shrinking it down nice and tight. LOL

Hurry up! I wanna see them finished. Thanks for stopping by my blog. There were bits of pink and purple in the grey single that I crocheted that big cowl out of.

Sandie--Yes...you have it right...pre-felt is just
partially felted...felt. Stopping mid-way and allowing it to dry gives you the ability to manipulate it in ways that felting from start to finish doesn't. :)
Ally--Hahaha! Soon, my friend, soon!! XO-
