While shaping the collar of the jacket...
...I fashioned one dangling piece into a 'rose-like' accent.
The burgundy-colored felt provides additional coverage...
...and its bold color lends visual interest.
A small triangle, inserted into the back as a kick pleat...
...brings the darker color to the back side of the jacket, as well.
I'm not exactly sure how utilitarian a garment like this will be...
...but I think it might be nice to wear over a long-sleeved knit top and jeans...
...once the cool winds start blowing again!

I think I missed something... Did you sew the ancillary piece of felt to the original, cut arm holes, and then fold over the collar? Or did you sew more seams than that?

Gorgeous coat. The collar and the rose close are eye catching. Very "technical" to make. Love them.
Well, it looks good on her, so I'm sure she'll find ways to wear it, and things to wear under it!

How lucky of you to have a daughter mannequin :-) The jacket looks divine, and I agree it would look very nice to layer over a nice top for the fall.

Elizabeth--Just as you said...the extra piece is only sewn to one front edge (and the kick pleat in back)....and arm holes cut into the original (larger) felt piece.
...and yes, I'm happy to use the 'dryer felt' method for large pieces like this!! :)
