I used narrow, grosgrain ribbon for the drawstring...
...but made the straps a bit shorter than with my previous bag.
Filled with things, it looks like this...
...and I hope that my friend will find it a useful size for storage...
...since she may already own a few too many of my purses! Grin.
After sewing on the satin ribbon casing...
...I threaded lengths of narrow grosgrain ribbon through it...
...one from each side of the bag.
This enabled the drawstring to work easily...
...while allowing the bag to open to its full width, as well.
By working inside-out , the pencil roving just melted into the felt...
...and the design didn't shift or deform...like it might if you added it last.

Terrie--Pencil roving is a type of roving that has been drawn until it is the size of a fat pencil.(It looks like soft yarn.) You can purchase it easily in the US. Maybe you can find a compay that ships overseas?!?
I love the bag! I've wanted to try some drawstring bags for quite a while now and yours has given me the nudge I need to get going on one for my daughter to use as a camera bag. I think it'll just be a plain bag, no design on it... not yet at least!

Andrea--What's nice about a drawstring bag is that when you cut out the resist at the top of the bag, it doesn't really matter whether you get a perfectly straight and even cut. The 'wiggly nature' of the cut area just makes it ruffle more when you pull the bag shut! :)
