The rug with tulle covering during felting.
The finished rug.
I think it looks a little like apricots and nuts in nougat! :)
The finished rug in situ.
Compared to my own raw fleece rug...
...this one came out a bit thinner and larger.
And without the addition of Icelandic locks...
...it's definitely less hairy and boingy!
I'm excited about the little bursts of color that the orange and red roving provide, though...
...and because it's multi-colored, I think it will coordinate with lots of different color schemes.
The best surprise was how well the grotty grey roving felted in...
...reminding me that there's nearly always a way to salvage less than stellar supplies. :)
So there you have it; the rug and room are here, just waiting for you...
...for when you come to visit me someday!

I can't wait to sink my toes into it! I love the bursts of orange and red too.
Your "day 2" posts always tickle me - love to see the finished products. And I get the boingy comment. Don't you just love playing with fibers!
Andrea--Yepp...it will be wonderful when you can find time to visit!
Deb--Thanks so much! Yes...and I especially love raw fleece!!
When I saw the little thumbnail picture I thought it was desert!!!
It looks smashing though! You didn't use anything as a base did you? I have this fantastically huge raw fleece here and one of my next projects will be turning it into a rug. Any raw fleece tips?
Yours looks really nice!
The rug turned out beautifully. It looks so cozy to step onto when you first get out of bed in the morning.
it's very special and colourful, you always make such special creations. a lot of people want to make them, you justdo it:)
Yes, looks good - there's just enough orange to be interesting and I know what you mean about the nougat appearance!
Mattie--You should definitely try making a raw fleece project, but I would suggest that you make a smaller piece first, just to get your feet wet with the technique.
I do use cheesecloth (cotton gauze) as a base, but I build it upside-down. If you search for 'raw fleece' posts on my blog, you'll see lots of helpful tips. Here's one to start you off: http://woollove-functional-fiberart.blogspot.com/2011/04/raw-locks-bedroom-rug-part-1.html
Leann, Riet and Rachel--Thanks for your nice comments!! XXO-
GORGEOUS rug Heather! It looks wonderful in your guest room :)
I think you have the same bed in there as my daughter has.

This turned out Great, Heather!
Just the right amount of zing with comfy cozy.
Nice size! I bet that was a beast to manage when it was wetted down! I love the color combo- of course.
Deborah--Ikea! (I find it a little hard to make, though!!)
Joei--Thanks! I like that 'zing with comfy cozy'!! :)
Kelly--When are you coming to try it out?!?

Janee--It would be great, wouldn't it?!?
Thanks for the tipps! I had allready ordered cheesecloth as I gathered it would be a good base to use!
Thanks for sharing your projects with us!
Mattie--You are very welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing what you create with your fleece!! XXO-
I love the rug Heather! It looks perfect with that bed and the hardwood floor. Great idea to add the cotton gauze for extra strength.
Thanks, Becky! I'd love to watch you make your fleece pieces sometime, since you seem to do it perfectly without the added reinforcement!!
I haven't been by for a few days, so glad i didn't completely miss this though, the rug is brilliant. I applaud any and all efforts to use grotty supplies. :)
Thanks, Angela! I know what you mean...I always feel so RESOURCEFUL when I do this!! :)
