Two Projects Made From Leftover Felt

A piece of a purple bark scarf (what was I thinking?), cut to fit around my dust mop.

Environmentally sound dusting...just shake or wash the cover, then re-use!

Stuffing scrap felt into an onion bag.

Won't my birds have colorful nests this year?

I have a drawer full of felt scraps from finished projects...

...and every now and then, I like to think of new ways to use them!

I had read somewhere about using a sock, instead of expensive, disposable cloths with my dust mop...

...so I decided to try to fashion one out of felt!

I cut and wrapped the piece around my mop, stitching the ends...

...and attached two small pieces of velcro to the flaps for easy removal.

*********************************************
The nesting material bag is an idea that I appropriated from my friend, Ruth...

...and I can't wait to watch as the bag empties, and the felt-lined nests appear!! :)

Great ideas! I've seen a lot of people who knit or crochet a cozy for their mop but I love the felt idea!

Since I sort fiber for other Alpaca Farms, I will create little grab bags to give the birds using the waste fleece that is already full of hay and too much VM for processing. I always hope that the mice don't think the gift is for them ;-)

Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

You're gonna have some spoiled birds in your neighborhood. Such a great use of scraps. Do you suppose birds can see colors? If they can I know they'll appreciate your generous offering. Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

Thanks, girls!! What an outpouring of comments this morning...YAY!!
I don't know if you can see it, but I also included some roving that I pulled off of my drum carder (mixed colors and too ugly to really use otherwise) in the net bag, as well.
Yes, Hadiah...I can't wait for "Sommer"!!

Candy thermometers :-)

Darling, do not be afraid! It's only sugar....if you mess up, not much lost. BUT, you won't mess up....it's so easy! Just be sure you have TIME on your hands. You must stand at the stove and stir and stir. My candy took a full hour to reach temp.....but that's it....rewarding! do it! do it!

Totally want to do a nesting bag... just with wool yarn. Such good uses of leftovers. Thanks for sharing!

Beth--You're so funny!! Thanks for the encouraging words!!
Peebee--Never too much, dear friend!!
Riet--You and Peebee are cracking me up today (translation: making me laugh so hard!!)When are you two getting together this week? I know you'll have a wonderful time together!
Thanks, Fiberdance!
Knot By Gma--I think wool yarn would be smashing! I think I read somewhere that the pieces should be cut pretty small, so they don't get swallowed. Could that be true?
I guess we should err on the side of caution, anyway and cut them! :)

Thanks, Kim!! XXOOO-
Karen--I'm not sure how this project would translate to your fabric leftovers, since you use virtually every micron you have in the most ingenious ways!! :)

The felt cover for your sweeper is a great idea. I crocheted one for mine too.

And the bag of nesting treats for the birds? I've been building one as I am spinning, with the bits I can't use. Then I combed out my Pomeranian, and clipped my Poodle. So the bag is also now full of soft dog hair as well. I hope my birds enjoy their treats as much as your birds do. :)
