More Bookcovers (Best Laid Plans)
Well, the photos that I intended to show you...
...are being held hostage by my recalcitrant computer.
It must have a virus, because I can't log on...
...and must wait for someone who is 'in the know' to help me.
In the meantime, I've borrowed my daughter's new tablet PC...
...and I've taken some new photos (of my finished covers) for you.
I promise that the process photos will be posted as soon as I can manage it...
...but for today, I'll skip to the end (again).
The green book cover was made with bits of sari silk...
...pieces of a sheer synthetic scarf, and bright green roving.
For the Goddess hand book cover...
...I cut a multi-colored piece of pre-felt into a hand shape, and needle-felted a pencil roving swirl onto it.
Because I used a closed resist, and wanted you to see how the cut was made (to make way for the book)...
...I've shown you the 'back side' of the burnt orange one.
You'll notice that I left a small 'lip' along the center of the cover...
...for better coverage along the spine.

Oh thank you for showing this. I love how you left the bit of lip on either end of the spine. I've been having a bit of trouble with that part and you've just solved my problem. I'd been using two resists and the spine part seemed to shrink away.
Lynn--That's exactly what happened to me when I used the partial resist. This way was much easier for me.
I love your felted covers, next week I will make one for my agenda, I always wanted to do that, you encouraged me to start.:-)
Love from Trudis
These book covers are fabulous Heather! I especially like the burnt orange one.
these are so beutiful and neat!
Thanks so much, ladies!! I'm working on embellishing the 'Goddess hand' one right now (a little bit). It's for a friend's birthday, and I wanted a bit more 'zing'!! :)
Another surprise. I would never have thought of a felted book cover, but it's a wonderful idea, and they will last forever!! I love them. You are so full of surprises, but all of them are so practical, lovely, and must have been such fun to do. You are giving me ideas lady!! :)
Your book covers are fantastic. You are really branching out. What are you doing with all of your beautiful creations?
I am having a drawing for one of my lace dresses. Let me know if you are interested by Aug. 13. Hugs
Cameron--The book covers are slated as birthday gifts for friends. Everyone got scarves and bags last year, so I have to keep 'changing up'!! :)
They are both absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE the Goddess one -it has 2 of my favourite motifs; hands & spirals - and the colours of both are perfect.
Hope you get your computer sorted soon - I know what a pain it is... we have just had to buy a new one.
xx
Thanks, Deborah!
I don't know if you read the comments following my other post on the Goddess Hand, but there's a great book on symbols that you might like if you don't already have it:
"The Book of Signs" by Rudolph Koch.
:-)) Your pictures shows me exactly what I want to know: how to felt a bookcover, Thanks
they are lovely, have a nice weekend,
Els
They look fab, Heather! Happy weekend to you! :)
Thanks, Mitsy...have a wonderful, relaxing weekend, yourself!! Hugs-
