Pieced Nuno Pre-Felt Purses- Part 8

Because one of the pieces of silk...

...did not 'become one' with the wool during felting...

...I attached it with a myriad of small hand stitches.

This same fabric caused a similar problem in one of the 'stripes'...

...so I repeated the process in this small area, too.

                                                         The finished purse...

                                                        ...blocked and drying.

Readying the brightly colored zipper for basting...

...using upholstery 'twist' pins to hold it in place.

                                                     Hand basting the zipper...

                                             ...prior to machine stitching it...

                                                            ...for durability.

                                         Next time: finalement...the finished bag!

"Purse-onality"- Part 4

Cutting narrow strips from a sheet of leather...

...rounding off their ends...

...and stitching each of them lengthwise...

                                                 ...(leaving the ends unsewn).

Punching holes in the strap ends...

...and 'basting' them to the bag...

                                                   ...with upholstery twist pins.

Stitching the handles to the bag...

                                              ...with strong nylon beading thread.

                                                        The finished purse...

                                               ...with its highly textured surface.

The bag interior is pure white...

...except for the nuno pre-felt pocket...

...and the shimmery blue leather handle...

...lends a bit of 'disco glamour'! ;)

"Who's Got the Button"? Purse- Part 4

The finished bag, drying.

Holding the zipper in place with twist pins...

                                                       ...I carefully baste it...

...and then machine stitch it into place.

                                              Using small metal punch tools...

...I make two notches in each end of my leather strap...

                                                  ...and then machine stitch it...

                                                       ...to the hanging loops.

Using variegated roving in the same colourway...

...I felt a ring-shaped zipper pull onto the metal one.

Because my resist features a flange...

...the bottom of this bag is quite roomy.

Despite the struggle I had with my buttons...

...in the end, I do love each and every one of them! :)

                                                         The finished purse...

...in all of its whimsical glory! ;)

Silk Scarf Embellished Slippers- Part 3 of 3

Using lasts that I made a number of years ago...

...and a pair of old stockings...

...I tumbled the nearly completed slippers in the dryer for a while...

                                                     ...to finish them off.

While choosing leather for the soles...

...I thought it would be fun...

...to use grey leather for one slipper...

                                               ...and burgundy for the other!

                                          Because I wasn't completely satisfied...

...with the way I 'healed' the slits during felting...

...I did a little hand embroidery...

                                                      ...around the cut edges.

I also stitched a bit on the slipper exteriors...

                                           ...to slightly camouflage the spots...

...where the silk didn't completely cover the wool.

Next time: photos from a couture fashion exhibit in Philadelphia.
