"Purse-travaganza"! Part 6 of ?

The finished bag...

                                                                   ...drying.

Cutting a strap and button closure...

...from a sheet of blue leather.

                                                        The purse interior...

                                             ...with decorative internal pocket.

                                               Close-ups of the felted-in yarn.

The back side of the purse (with sun)...

                                                           ...and the front...

...with leather closure and vintage button.

"Purse-travaganza"! Part 5 of ?

Adding additional layers of fiber to each side...

...ending with a layer of white merino...

...for a light and bright purse interior.

Applying layers of wool and decorative elements...

...to a bubble wrap pocket resist.

                                                      Mid-way through felting...

                                                    ...the resist is removed...

...and the purse is turned right-side out.

As I roll, the bag is folded in various ways...

                                              ...for even shrinkage during felting.

A 'felting stone' aids in shaping its rounded base.

                                                            After some time...

...the bag achieves its final shape and size.

(Note how aggressively the Karakul fibers...

                                            ...migrate through the white lining!)

Next time: the finished purse with leather strap and closure.

"Purse-travaganza"! Part 4 of ?

For the next six posts...

...I'll explore the use of 'hairy wools'...

...and their potential for affixing embellishments like yarn and fabric.

Laying out a base of karakul blend wool...

...and applying decorative tracings of wool yarn...

                                              ...and areas of colored roving...

                                                  ...to create a landscape.

                                                      A fiery sun is added...

...and the project is wetted out with soapy water.

A foam resist is centered on the surface of the design...

...and the decorative elements for side two are added.

                                                           These elements...

...are then covered with a layer of wool.

A strip of thin plastic is placed into the flange fold...

...and the project is wetted out.

Next time: a decorative interior pocket is added.

Three New Christmas Stockings- Part 3 of 4

Working inside-out this time...

...I lay out a pencil-roving 'name'...

...and bits of blue wool at the 'heel and toe'.

The stocking is then covered with layers of Karakul roving...

...plus white wool (from a batt) at the top.

The project is flipped to side two...

...and additional (hairy!) wool is added.

A hanging loop is fashioned at the top...

                                                     ...and felting commences.

                                                                 As I work...

                                                   ...the 'assertive' green wool...

...begins to migrate into the white roving.

                                                   A new Christmas stocking...

                                        ...for my wonderful, soon-to-be son-in-law!

Next time: a striped Christmas stocking for Mr. Green!
