Felt Feutre 2016- Beautiful Feltmakers + A Few Projects!

As you can see...

                                                 ...from these beautiful smiles...

...there were lots of happy feltmakers...

                                                   ...at Felt Feutre last week!

It's lovely to make new kindred spirit fiber friends...

...and to get to spend time with people you really care about...

                                                       ...but don't often see.

There was also a wonderful energy in the building...

...that even the (amazing!) support staff noticed...

...and that seemed to imbue nearly every participant...

                                                ...with a special, creative glow!!!

I regret that I didn't get to visit all of the other classrooms...

...but here are a few photos of some of the incredible projects...

                                               ...that were created last week!

Next time: photos from Fiona's Fibre, Paper and Ink Vessel class!

Felt Feutre 2016- Exhibitions

In Penticton, BC last week, at Felt Feutre...

                                                   ...beautiful, handmade felt...

                                                 ...was everywhere we looked!

There were both fine art and functional pieces...

                                                 ...and fashionable garments...

...and a couple that used hooked rug elements...

                                                  ...as felting embellishments.

It was especially exciting to see...

...all of the 'stella motus' pieces...

                                                     ...together in one place...

...and to see how each individual feltmaker...

...expressed the movement of the stars...

                                                 ...in her/his own unique way!!

Stella Motus (For Felt Feutre)- Part 2

As the felting continues...

...black fibers begin to migrate through the white wool...

...turning it a lovely heathery grey.

I roll carefully, changing orientation regularly...

...to maintain the piece's circular shape.

                                                          Once fully felted...

...beads and seed pearls are sewn onto the felt surface...

                                                       ...as 'celestial glitter'...

                                           ...and I embroider running stitches...

                                                      ...and French knots....

...to indicate the movement of the stars.

The reverse side of the project...

                                                        ...with hanging loop.

The organizers of Felt Feutre asked Canadian feltmakers...

                                              ...and all workshop participants...

...to create a small wall-art piece...

...depicting the movement of the stars (stella motus).

They will first be displayed as a community felt installation...

...and later sold to provide scholarships for the next Canadian Felt Symposium.
