Ruffled Silk Nuno Scarf- Part 1 of 2

Assembling my supplies:

...pale blue ruffled silk fabric...

...and variegated tencel and wool blend roving.

Laying out a single layer of fiber on the fabric surface...

...(in the direction that I desire shrinkage most)...

                                               ...and wetting the project out.

                                                  A dyed Mawata silk hankie...

...is stretched to form a 'spiderweb'...

...and applied to the surface of the wool.

                                               The rubbing and rolling begins.

                                               Fulling the partially felted project...

...helps to tighten the fibers and shrink the scarf.

                                                 Next time: felting continues.

The silk mawata looks so flimsy, it's amazing to think it will have any effect at all. Behold me intrigued...!

Rachel- The strands of silk are very fine, but they can pack a big color punch!

I love mawata silk - and that's very pretty colours .. I'll bet it's gonna look stunning so stretched and webby :) xx

Deborah--I like to add just a bit of embellishment, even on the 'wrong' side of the scarf. :)

What was the base silk? gauze? I love the simplicity of the one layer and then a touch of silk hankie.

Kathy- It wasn't a gauze...not that open-weave...more like a paj, maybe?
