Brightly colored sari silk fiber...
...is snipped into short lengths...
...and applied to the surface of the resist.
One layer of merino roving tops the silk...
...and then a second (in a perpendicular direction).
The project is flipped to side two...
...and the entire process is repeated.
Mid-way through felting...
...the hat is cut open...
...and the resist is removed.
Next time: the finished hat!

The silk is going to create some gorgeous flecks of colour!
Rachel- What's funny, though, is that my daughter chose for the colored bits to be on the inside...only showing on the rim of the finished hat!
(She's the yin to my color-loving yang?!?) :)
I love using sari silk like this Heather, it's gonna look great against the dark fibre too :) Looking forward to seeing the finished bowler! xx
Deborah--This is the first of several projects that I've made with your Christmas goodies! Thanks, again!! :)
