'Dotty' Red Hat- Part 1 of 2

Adding layers of a wool batt...

...(with multicolored cotton dots)...

...to the surface of a bubble wrap resist...

...then flipping it to side two.

Carefully wrapping the overlapped wool around the resist...

...then covering this side with layers of batt, as well.

Adding circular 'puffs' of wool roving...

...and outlining them with pencil roving for definition.

Mid-way through felting (the exterior surface of the hat)...

                                                          ...and the interior surface.

(See how the colored fibers 'migrate' through the layers of wool?)

                                                           Next time: the finished hat.

One of these days I really must make myself a flamboyant hat like this one - I'm sure it will be great fun to wear!

Rachel-This one was actually a Christmas present, but I just spent the day on a multicolored one for myself (stay tuned!) :)

Ooo Heather.. LOVE the shape, colour and spots :) As it is at the moment it reminds me of pixie hats from old illustrated Enid Blyton books when I was little

Deborah--Unfamiliar with her work, I googled 'Enid', and I was immediately directed to the Enid Blyton Society, Noddy, and to his hat! :)
