Working with Finn wool is a unique experience.
It's quite an 'aggressive felter'...
...and Karoliina had me prepare pre-felts so fully-felted...
...that they really seemed like felt to me!
I layered ovals of colored wool, 'frames' of orangey-red pre-felt...
...yellow wool antennae, and small lengths of black yarn...
...to make flowers along a green, spiral pre-felt stem.
Next time: the finished rug!

Gorgeous, vivid and lively!
Your "rug" is gorgeous. Like walking down the garden path! I love it!!
Heather, that is just delightful!! Love the spiral - it's a key shape in wire-wrapping which I have been doing lately. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Rachel-What wonderful adjectives! Thank-you so much!!
Sandie-i hadn't thought of that! :)
Kathy-so many of us love spirals...your new work sounds interesting...can't wait to see it!
Beautiful rug Heather! I just used Finn in a raw felted Lincoln fleece last night. I needed something that would felt fast because the fleece itself was already partially felted(by the sheep) and I didn't want to lose the tips during felting. Thanks for posting all the lovely photos of your experience at this year's Fling. I would love to go there someday!
It's looking beautiful already Heather! (you know how much I luuurve spirals) I can't wait to see the finished item :)
I've never used Finn wool.. this makes me want to try
xoxo
Becky--Yes, you must come along one year!! It would be wonderful to have you there!
(That Finn wool is an amazing felter, isn't it?!?)
Deborah--It's really an interesting wool to felt. I could NOT believe how the (to my mind) nearly fully felted pre-felts just melted into the wool....it's so 'grabby'!
This is gorgeous!
