...I wasn't sure what I would make with this piece when I prepared it.
Using bits of (mostly) blue or variegated blue roving that I had on hand...
...I laid out several layers of wool in a large rectangle...
...covered them with soapy water (and bubble wrap)...
...and rolled the bundle fifty times in each of the four directions.
Next time: the pre-felt is cut into shape.

I really enjoy the prefelts you make along with the shapes. I'm assuming it's your way of stash busting.
I can see myself using pre-felt for almost everything. It just seems to me it would be easier to cut out and sew together into what I want, than using resists and hoping everything comes out right. Proof that I know nothing about felting, right? LOL
