"Stuffed Blob" Scarf

Stuffing pre-felt circles with squares of striped organza fabric.

Hand-stitching the different elements of the scarf together.

The colored 'dots' are merely laid onto the pre-felt...

 ...not stitched on!

Wetting the scarf out, prior to felting.

The finished scarf back...

...and front.

A close-up of the cut-open 'blobs'! :)

Earlier this fall, I began a sort of 'scarf exploration'...

...and this was project number one.

I wanted to see how very thinly I could lay out my pre-felt...

...to still make a fully functional scarf...

...and I wanted to play with stuffed pre-felt as a design element, as well.

I chose to hand-stitch the color segments together with nylon thread...

...not out of necessity...

...but to insure that they would easily stay together during felting.

When fully felted and dried...

...I removed the basting stitches...

...and snipped the front surface of each organza-stuffed 'blob'...

...for a fun and colorful look.

I really like the way this scarf turned out! The ends look like geodes.

There seems to be a great variety available in felting - endless scope for experimentation.

Kelly-You're right about the 'geodes'! That striped organza is fantastic to felt with. I've used it before in a blue messenger bag.
Rachel-Yup...here's me just fiddling around! ;)

Now see, I tell everyone that they are little flowers you placed on each end. I think they are adorable. :) No longer "blobs" but "blossoms."
