"Agricultural Aerial Photograph" Wall Hanging- Part 4

After all of the 'replacement pieces'...

                                              ...have been stitched into place...

                                                      ...I wet the project out...

                                                     ...and continue felting.

The bright colors from the middle layers...

...are beginning to migrate through the white wool...

...and the pieced additions and yarn embellishments...

...become integral parts of the project.

                                              The finished wall hanging (front)...

                                                               ...and back...

                                                               ...and in situ...

...on my pumpkin-colored dining room wall.

"Agricultural Aerial Photograph" Wall Hanging- Part 3

The partially felted project...

     ...had several 'unappealing' areas value-wise...

...so before I continued on with my felting...

...I decided to 'cover up' a few of the worst offenders. :)

After tracing the outlines of the 'errant pieces'...

                                                 ...on plastic sandwich bags...

...I cut 'replacement pieces' from finished felt...

                                                              ...or pre-felt...

...and hand-stitched them to the project with wool yarn.

I also 'livened up' areas that seemed a little too plain...

                                            ...with a bit of hand-embellishment.

Next time: the finished project in situ.

"Agricultural Aerial Photograph" Wall Hanging- Part 2

Applying a layer of silk gauze to the project surface...

...and covering that with a layer of white merino wool.

Folding in the silk for a neat edge...

                                                ...and wetting the project out.

After rubbing the piece for a while...

                                                       ...it's now time to roll.

                                                    Mid-way through felting...

...the project is turned right side up...

...and checked to see whether anything has shifted...

...or whether anything seems wrong, value-wise.

Next time: a few things are 'covered up'!

"Agricultural Aerial Photograph" Wall Hanging- Part 1

You may remember the pre-felt pieces...

...that I made last summer at 'Fling'...

                                                 ...well, here they are again...

                                         ...but now, they've been deconstructed!

Placing pre-felt sections (with their 'right sides' down)...

...onto the surface of the bubble wrap...

...and filling in any remaining empty spaces...

...with layers of wool roving in various colors.

                                                      Wetting the project out...

                                                        ...and covering it...

...with layers of fiber (from both roving and batts).

Next time: a layer of silk gauze is added.

Peg Loom Sampler

I received a lovely peg loom kit for my birthday...

...and 'wood burned' numbers into both the pegs and the loom...

...(so if several of the pegs pull out at the same time during weaving...

...they can easily be put back into their proper holes).

Warping the loom with strong linen cord in two colors.

                                                         Beginning to weave...

...using various kinds and weights of yarn...

                                                     ...and sari silk ribbon.

It's fun to see how each type of yarn looks and 'behaves'...

                                                ...in a finished (woven) project.

                                                     The completed sampler...

...made from both synthetic and natural yarns and ribbons.

Because it was just the right size...

...the finished sampler has become a nubby cushion in my cat's bed.

A photo of Erykah (age 18)...

...enjoying her soft and cozy new bedding! :)
