Laying out hand-carded batts...
...and adding fiber balls made of cast-off finished felt, roving and yarn.
Adding a second layer of wool from the batts...
...to cover the inclusions...
...and topping it off...
...with a layer of warm brown wool.
Adding soapy water to the project...
...and carefully rubbing around the inclusions to fix them in place.
Topping the internal fiber balls...
...with 'blobs' of dyed tussah silk in various colors...
...using this nano-photograph of viruses...
...as my inspirational springboard.
A friend and I were chatting on Facebook recently...
...about the idea of using images of viruses as inspiration for our felt work.
I told her that I had started this 'viral' pillow some months ago...
...but that the finished felt was not nearly as inspiring as the original! ;)
Next time: the felting continues...
...and I come up with a fix. :)

It's always interesting to watch something being developed from an inspiration such as this, which is at such a different scale.
Meant to come back to you to thank you for all your help and encouragement on the felting front Heather. Really looking forward to seeing how you work on your current project. best Helene
Rachel-Don't get too excited ;) it doesn't really work out the way I'd envisioned... :(
