Plant Dyeing on Linen Garments

Tying leaf-and linen bundles...

...(plus one felt purse which I'll blog about later)...


                                                    ...prior to their immersion.



                               The linen pieces were mordanted with alum and milk...


                                       
                              ...and some of the plant prints came out quite clearly.



                               The overall shade of the dress is very yellow, though...



                      ...and though I do like it better than I did when it was plain white...


            
                                      ...I rather prefer the color of this linen jacket...

                                ...which we 'cooked' along with a rusty piece of metal.



                                 The overall tone of this garment is grey and pink...



                                        ...and the presence of iron in the water...



                                     ...also helped to make some of the leaf prints...



                                                 ...darker and more visible.

Oh yes.. I like the effect with iron in the water too! Could you pop the dress in again with some iron I wonder?
