Most of the colorful silk pieces that I used...
...are only really visible from the top.
The hat interior is actually brown corriedale wool.
(Not the grey of the photograph.)
Because we used different weaves and weights of silk...
...from various thrifted garments...
...we found that some of the pieces 'felted-in' easily and some didn't.
I like this snippet of color on the brim...
...and this bright pink 'medallion'.
Both enliven otherwise quiet areas of the hat.
While blocking and drying this piece...
...I fashioned a 'bowler hat' kind of brim.
The finished project.
Next time: a tote made from fibery leftovers!

So fine hat!!!
A very beautiful hat Heather! The bright silks have really mellowed out with the brown fibre.. Love it!
Just need to see it on your head now :)
xx
The various silks do bring the hat to life, don't they!
Galina-Thanks so much!
Deborah-I, too, love the way bright silks are 'tamed' using this method! :)
Rachel-Yes! Using all earth tones results in a much more 'subtle' hat.
lovely, wished i had time to felt again...
That's a wonderful hat. I love the colors, even the shape is really good, and I bet it looks great on you too. :)
Kim-I'm sorry that you've been too busy to felt, lately. One day, you will come here for a 'felting retreat', no?!? :)
Sandie--Thanks so much!
