Layering brown wool roving and cotton gauze.
Folding in the edges and adding colored stripes.
Circles come next!
After wetting it out.
To thank my dear Ohio friend for her excellent hospitality last weekend...
...I took along a football themed table runner for her family room table.
Having recently lost her elderly father, who lived with them...
...she and her husband have since reclaimed and redecorated his quarters...
...in a manner befitting their Cleveland Browns football fanatic natures! :)
Since I am not a sports fan myself...
...I re-imagined the look of a football field for my design. :)
My color choices here were a 'given'...
...since the team colors are orange and brown.
To begin, I laid out a layer of brown wool roving...
...and then a layer of cotton gauze.
More layers of orange and varying colors of brown came next (as stripes)...
...and, after wetting out the piece, I folded in the edges to make a neat rectangle.
I split lengths of roving into thin sections to make circles...
...then placed them randomly on the surface of the runner.
Next time: the finished project...in its new home. :)

Love this gorgeous piece of felt. Thankyou so much for your very useful comment and link on my blog Heather, but I have just learned of a different spice/herb company which sells smaller jars here in the UK.
Oh darn...you were forced to work with Orange ;-) Love how it wetted out.
Heather--That's good! I'd hate to think of you not utilizing that lovely cupboard to its fullest!!
Andrea--Yes...the 'horror'!! Giggle
You don't need to know about football (any sort of football!) to make the most of the right colours!
Rachel--Lucky for me! :)
Love it. I did a double take when I saw a football team as the inspiration! These colors SCREAM Fall to me! :)
Kelly--It's funny...as much as I love orange and fall colors, orange and brown alone together don't really appeal to me. This serves its function, though, and I think you'll like the piece 'in situ'! :)
