Swell New Boots (!) and Zippered Felt Bag

My new Doc Martens boots...in Peacock!!

Makeup bag made from last Summer's left-over flat felt.

The bag back.

The bag...unzipped.

Since I know that some of you are sick-to-death of pillow covers...

...I'm taking a little detour today. :)

And just in case Santa isn't exactly sure how good I've been all year (ulp!)...

...I bought myself an early Christmas present--these fabu boots!

I actually saw them on someone else's blog recently (but, sadly, can't remember whom)...

...and absolutely fell in love!
**********************************

I made this felt with hand-dyed silk and novelty yarn...

...in order to have it on hand for the 'Creative Felt Gathering' last Summer.

Since the felt book that I made from it was small...

...I had quite a large piece of it left over.

I realized that it could be sewn into a cute little makeup bag...

...as an 'add-on gift' for 'she-who-refuses-to-give-me-a-list'.

I sewed the zipper to the top and bottom edge of the felt rectangle first...

...then opened the zipper up, flattened the bag out, and sewed up the sides.

It's important that you remember to open the zipper a bit before sewing the last side...

...otherwise, the zipper pull will be inaccessible, and you will have to rip out
your stitches!!

I think that the pink zipper looks a little funny in these photos...

...but there is pink in the yarn, and it coordinates pretty well in 'real life'!

i love the colours in your make-up bag. thanks for the zipper tip too, i've struggled with sewing zips in so tend not to use them, perhaps it time to practise some more!

ooooh, I LOVE those boots! I had a pair of CAT dress shoes in that color that I wore until they were no longer blue (actually, I wear them at Alpaca shows now because I can't give them up and there's no sense in wearing dress shoes around the poo) and never found a replacement. Doc Marten and I don't always see eye to eye. Your boots are super sassy.

Love the make up bag and thanks for the zipper tip. I received my table runner and it's beautiful! I'll be using that once the holiday decorations come down.

That bag is really nice. Thanks for the sipper tip. And as for the boots they are fabba-dabba-do.

Narkeymarkey---YES!! Thanks so much! I knew I had just seen them, but where-o-where?? You will love them, too, I'm sure. They are really comfortable (and cute!)

Andrea--I'm so glad you received the runner and like it!!! YAY!

Glad you found me again and were able to tell me you bought the boots!!! Maybe I should write to Dr Marten and ask for a commission lol.
Hee hee, I'm wearing mine right now as I can't bear to take them off until I get my wood burner going like a fiery furnace.
The make up bag is great! Lovely use for left over felt : ) Looking forward to following your blog.

I love the boots! Do you know what style they are? I am looking for a pair of boots like that, but in brown. Most of what I've seen in the shops have heels though, which I don't need at my height!

Thanks, again Aileen! It looks like you've singlehandedly started a trend!! :)
Rebecca--Here's the link to where I bought them. (It should at least give you the pertinent details, so you can check out the best deal where you are.) They come in blue and grey, but not brown, though. http://www.onlineshoes.com/womens-dr-martens-mid-calf-zip-boot-peacock-broadway-p_id196828

Hee hee. Started a trend indeed! You get them in red here in the UK too. I was tempted.....now if they had come in purple! well.....I would have to have had two pairs!
