Laying out the dots.
The finished pillow cover, after trimming.
The pillow back.
The pillow front.
When Nicola visited me this Fall...
...she was kind enough to bring along some short fiber merino for me to try.
It's the 'darling' of many felters lately...
...and I was excited to try this 'magical, quick-felting' wool myself!
Since this is a gift for a friend with a new, not-yet-fully-decorated house...
...I figured that this 'pillow of many colors' would certainly fit in somewhere!
I started (as usual) with a cheesecloth square...
...then covered it with white wool roving.
Next, I laid out the dots, leaving room between them...
...later filling in the empty areas.
The short fiber merino was a really good fit for this project...
...since little bits can easily be broken off and laid out.

What a great house warming gift...or gift in general. The colors are perfect. I have to admit that I use a lot of merino with my Alpaca for both felting and spinning. It really is the go-to fiber.
heather, it looks great! and the merino fiber is wonderfull to work with, we used it for the trees at kim's workshop. love, riet:)
Andrea--You're smart to mix the alpaca with merino. I didn't realized that when I used it, and my final project turned out hairy and 'slippery'. :(
Riet--I love the trees you did with Kim!!
wonderful result Heather. I love the skirts in the previous posts too.
Great colors! Your sewing skills are a bit better than mine! You really are flying along with soft furnishings. Hope all going well for Christmas! xx
I really like your dots and how they turned out:). I firts thoughtyou got short stapled merino roving (tops), but when I read the reply of Riet I think it is indeed the merino fleece I also love to use....
Thanks, Sally and Sharon!
Kim--Yes...the short fiber merino was in a batt form, just like you use!

Thanks, Vicki-I hope my friend agrees!
