Ballenberg, Swiss Open-Air Museum- 2015

This wonderful outdoor museum...

...is filled with antique stables, farmhouses, bakehouses and barns...

...taken from various parts of Switzerland...

                                                  ...and then rebuilt on-site.

The rooms are furnished as they might have been 'back then'...

...and depending on the time of day...

...there are demonstrations of traditional crafts or skills...

                                                     ...like bobbin lace-making...

...(or other intricate kinds of handiwork)...

                                               ...soup- or cheese- making...

                                                           ...feltmaking(!)...

                                                            ...woodcarving...

...and even milling wooden planks from large, old-growth trees!

                                                   There are lots of animals...

...and scores of decorative Swiss cow bells.

There was one rather modern house on the premises...

...with light wooden paneling and furnishings...

                                                             ...fleece rugs...

...and even an expandable, 'accordion' bedframe!

                                             The museum covers 163 acres...

...and the views from every one are breathtaking!

I especially liked the collection of hand-fashioned implements...

...and thoughtful, decorative touches like this flower bench.

We stopped for a 'photo op' on our drive home...

                                             ...what a glorious-looking country!

Next time: we head to a Medieval walled city in Germany!

What beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing. They bring back memories of the IFA conference the year before last, not least the amazing interlaken scenery, I still don't know how I didn't crash the car while I stared, slack-jawed at the beauty all around.
