Feltfull 2013 Hats- Part 1 of 3 (Plus A Flag!)

A piece of flat felt was requested from each of the participants.

(I made mine using pencil roving in several different colors.)

These pieces were then stitched together to form flags...

...and flown, proudly, during our workshop week.

(The 'flying flag' photo credit goes to Truus Huijbregts, NL)

Making a cord for hat number one...

...a rather bright, 'helmet-y' affair...

...which I dulled down a bit with a thin layer of brown roving.

The cord...

...pinned into a coil and drying.

The finished hat.

My hat class with Judit Pocs was really quite remarkable!

She is an exceptional artist...

...and a devoted and energetic instructor.

This was the first (of three) hats which I made during her three-day class.

Next time: a 'telescoping' hat...

...made with silk bits.

Ooo Heather.. lovely hat! The colours are great (the fine layer of brown made the colours so subtle and pretty) I LOVE the multicolourd cord and you know I'm loving the ear flaps :)

More fun times being shared, I see. Very interesting hat too. Not too wild, but not demure either. LOL

That flag was a cute idea for a fun filled week of felting too. :)

I love how you used the brown to tone down the color. What type of wool is this? I love the finished look of it. :)A
The flag that was made is such a fun idea too!

These photos bring back happy memories of Feltfull. Can you tell me how many layers your hats with Judit had as I am just about to start making hats as part of my felting course :)

Kelly--Thanks! I agree...Truus had a great idea when she asked for the 'flag parts' from all of the workshop participants!
Jane--6 layers. Good luck!

Another great one! The flag idea is brilliant :)

Lindy-I agree! The flag is a great way to include the work of many feltmakers in one project.

Thanks. Far to hot here at the moment to contemplating making hats but it will not last long.

Jane--Let's hope not! It's been pretty disgusting here lately! :)
