Laying out silk and wool for a 'dryer felt' nuno shawl.

Accordion pleating my shawl, prior to tying, with classmate and 'dyeing guru' Terriea...

For my 'first ever' dryer felt project...
...I made a very simple white wool and silk shawl.
The technique involves rolling the project in thin plastic sheeting...
...and drying it on air only until felted...
...unrolling and re-rolling between 10-15 minute dryer sessions.
Once felted and dried (and used as a sleeping bag and a superhero cape)...
...I pleated and tied it, soaked it in a solution of vinegar and water...
...and simmered it in a pot with pieces of rusted metal.
I'm happy that the combination of Terriea's perfect pleats and my haphazard ones...
...worked together in harmony to create this incredible design!! :)

Heather, you're just being kind. We'd a wonderful time with the group. Storm and the cat are so sweet. I'm really happy to read your blog of good captures.
Terriea--It was a wonderful week and I love the dyed silk scarf that you gave me. I wear it proudly and enjoy telling others about your skills as a dyer and about our friendship! XXO-
beautiful Heather - and Terriea!
It's lovely - you learnt so many new techniques on your week away!
Love the catnap photo - leave it to a cat to find the best, most warm and cushy sleeping place. :)
Nicely done!
Fantastic, and definitely unique as well. :)
