Cleveland Rocks!! Part 1

From the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Check out this saturated color!

James Tissot, I love you!

This modern-looking 'Star-Gazing Woman' was actually carved around
3000 BC!!

One of my favorite nudes in the museum...I love the expression on his face (pride and a little bit of wonder, too).

Eeek!

Auguste Rodin's bronze 'The Thinker'.

Although I've been an 'East Coast girl' for a number of years, now...

...I'm still a true Midwesterner at heart.

This weekend, we spent a lovely day in my hometown, Cleveland, Ohio...

...and had a wonderful time!

For those of you who've never had the opportunity to visit this delightful city or museum...

...I say, put it on your 'to do' list NOW!! :)

The Cleveland Museum of Art has an amazing, eclectic collection...

...that's sure to have something for everyone!

Since it's currently under renovation, some of my favorite pieces have been squirreled away for a time...

...but here are a few tasty morsels! :)

Next time: Sandwiches that will make you weep with joy!

I love the Cleveland Museum but haven't been since they finished the remodeling. Can't wait for the sandwich as I miss the variety of food we had in NE Ohio vs. here is South Carolina. They only carry a single variety of pierogies in the grocery store providing they have them at all. Cleveland Rocks!

Deb--I didn't know you were a Cleveland girl, too!?! Yes...the homemade pierogies, the kielbasi, strudel and potica...all tastes of my childhood!

I grew up in Copley, just outside of Akron. Also lived on Pelee Island & Catawba Island. Last time I checked on the Cleveland Museum they'd finished part of the remodel but were apparently starting another section. I just remember my 1st impression of the museum as a child was staring at the enormous, enormous Monet they had - one of his waterlilies. I was also blessed as a young person to be able to make a few visits to the Morse's warehouse that was full of their Dali collection. Years later I lived in Florida & visited the Dali museum but was so disappointed as it just wasn't the same experience as walking through rows & rows of paintings, notes, sketches that were just there to gawk at in the huge industrial building.
Oh, & I've been on a pepperoni roll making jag lately. But since you mentioned potica......

Leann--Yes--it was quick, but very memorable!

Oh, Deb...what wonderful memories! I don't remember seeing the entire Dali collection at the art museum, but in my pre-teens, they moved the entire collection to an industrial building in Beachwood, Ohio and my sister and I visited there often. (You can read about it a bit here: http://thedali.org/collection/collection_history.html )
Hah! the pepperoni roll at Rini's grocery store...a fav of mine as a kid!! Yes...potica....how I wish those Gmas of the 'Slovenian' boys I dated back then had taught me how to make a good one!! :)

Hahaha Peebee! They have a few lovely Monet waterlillies at the Cleveland Art Museum, too, but I take your point and agree...I think everyone in the world would prefer a trip to Paris! :)

It was at the Morse warehouse that I saw the collection several different times. Speaking of Cleveland, have you been to the Rock Hall? We visited it 2 years ago & it was an amusing way to spend a day.

Deb--Once, years ago (1997?), but we must have caught it on a bad day. The auditorium had lots of broken seats already, and they had a '60's psychedelic music' exhibit that smelled like vomit, and we couldn't decide whether someone had had an accident and they didn't clean it up, or whether it was supposed to be there, like 'scratch-n-sniff'! :)

The new building on the lake, designed by I.M.Pei, is gorgeous. The exhibits are very well done & my quite petite daughter (size 1 or 2) got such a kick out of the fact that she probably could not fit into the Mick Jagger jumpsuit that was on display. We really did enjoy our morning there, sorry yours was icky.

Deb--I'm glad you had a good experience. I will make a point to try it again next time we're home!
Thanks for the encouragement!! XXO-

Michelle--You and my friend Kelly are like bookends! She complains bitterly (in a joking way) when she has to wait, while you are filled with anticipation! I aim to please and hope there's always something for everyone! Giggle.
