A Tale Of Two Spinnings-Yarn Giveaway

Lincoln locks spun into yarn on a spinning wheel.

Yarn made on my drop spindle with locks and other 'add-ons'.
(Double click on the photo if you want to see what each is made of!!)

Yarn made with dyed Finn locks...close-up.

Locks spun with sari silk ribbon.

The top photo is of yarn that my friend, Linda, and I made together on her spinning wheel...

...using dyed Lincoln locks and (for part of the skein, anyway) a 'core' of wool- blend string.

I found it quite interesting, trying a wheel...

...because other than driving a stick-shift car...

...I don't normally do things that require both my hands and feet at the same time!!

I must confess that I don't think I'll be buying a spinning wheel any time soon...

...not just because of my ineptitude ;), but also because I really don't need to produce yards and yards of yarn at a time.

I did learn some new ways to make my 'spindle-spun' yarn better though...

...and it was a wonderful experience, overall!

If you'd like a chance to win an assortment of my hand-spun yarn...

...for felting or other purposes (remember, they are small quantities!)...

...please leave me a comment on this post.

If you let me know your color preferences...

...I'll try to give you some in that color range (if I have it!!)

I'll close the giveaway on Sunday, June 26th at Midnight (EST)...

...and please make sure that I have a way to contact you if you're the winner!

Yes, a spinning wheel is really the first stage of industrialisation, isn't it. Like you, I understand what's going on, but actually achieving it competently and unassisted is another matter!

Ooooh, those yarns are totally adorable. Your orange yarn, donated by Sprite, is totally rock star! It is neat to see the yarns from the different types of wool.

I'm taking myself out of the running for the prize since I'm a spinning addict but you know me...always loving to comment ;-)

Juhuuu! Can I be the first one to enter! I love your Yarns. They look so inspiring! I tried out a spindle once, but couldn't get it to work... I think all the colors are pretty!

Pretty lock spinning, I love them all, the one with the sari ribbon is my favorite. You will have to show us the project you use it in!

Love them all! We just acquired a pair of orphaned Lincoln lambs so I'm smiling at the thought of their first shearing as the pay off for all of the bottles I am making now ;-)

Beautiful yarns, Heather! I have a spinning wheel that i bought while travelling in New Zealand- for $10! I'm afraid to take it out though as it might start something, and I don't have enough time to do all I want to do right now...so I'm holding back, until the time is right!
Your yarns would be so nice felted into a piece for surface texture, with all that lovely texture they have already! You do such fun things!

Lovely yarn. The texture and colors are wonderful.

Your colors always amaze me, the yarn and the silk scarves in your earlier post. they are simply brilliant!

All and any colours would be lovely, especially in the eternal gloom of non-spring here on Bowen Island, just off the coast of Vancouver, BC.

In fact, I save most of your posts for inspiration, waiting for the muse to strike -- hopefully this summer now that my own little lambs are home from school!

Well look at you spinning away! Very awesome! I love your first yarns!

I have just purchased a wheel but it has not arrived yet, I am most anxious. I am a wet felter, machine felter, needle felter and knitter and soon I hope to add spinner. I want to spin chunky yarns with locks and things added in. I would love to win your yarn to use in my felting.

CM--How lovely to hear that my blog inspires you! (blush) I hope you'll have time to try some fun projects this summer and I look forward to seeing them!
Jenn--I'm really enjoying using the spindle...and luckily, no one else I know here in town does this, so I can just learn in my own weird way! (I guess I'll have a lot to UNLEARN if I get to spend time with a real spindle-spinner sometime!) :)
Pat--I'm so glad that you visited my blog! It sounds like you are a fiber Renaissance woman!!! Good luck with your wheel!

Heather, you continue to amaze me. Now I know that you don't sleep. We do have to get together some day to compare notes and just have some felting play days.
I am also having a very different contest for me. Would you talk it up for me? I haven't been blogging much and need to get the word out. Thanks if you have the time. Love to have you join, and put me down for any color in your contest please. Hugs your way, Cameron
