50th Anniversary Table Runner- Part 2

Close up of the finished runner...prefelt, neps and scrunched-up silk gauze.

In its entirety.

Embroidered heart.

50 loving years together.

A cousin recently sent me a DVD with family movies on it...

...from half a century ago.

My favorite parts were the scenes of my aunt and uncle canoodling in the corner...

...so young, and so very much in love!

Somehow, throughout 50 years of married life, they've managed to keep that passion for each other...

...what a rare and beautiful thing!

To commemorate this milestone, I did a little embroidery...

...just the number 50 in an embroidered prefelt heart.

Happy Anniversary, you two!! <3

That is stunning! I love how the fabric changed as it was wet felted. You could go into massive amounts of symbolism about marriage when you look at how the fiber and fabrics changed in the process yet created something even more beautiful together but...the embroidered heart with 50 says it all. I'm glad that your cousin was able to take the movie and transfer it to DVD. I'm slowly scanning photos so I can create a scrapbook of all the grandparents, etc. for my siblings and cousins. It's amazing how much of our future really is tied to our past.

Beautiful work, as always.

Thanks, Els! Yes...my aunt put it right onto her table for daily use!
Andrea--I hadn't thought of the symbolism, but you're right! Heat, agitation, a little soap and LOVE!
:)
Thanks, Kelly!

Thanks, Denise! I was happy that my aunt knew right away that it was felted. She told me that she 'has a book on it', but hasn't ever tried it.
