Striped 'Art Yarn' Scarf- Part 1

Laying out merino roving in stripes.

Adding art yarn.

Angelina sparkles!

Sandwiching the yarn with a thin layer of white roving.

I wanted to make a wide, thin scarf for myself several weeks ago...

...and decided that it would be fun to make it in lots of bright colors!

I used thin layers of merino roving for the bands of color...

...then added pieces of art yarn, lengthwise, to make a fringe at each end.

For a little sparkle, I added blobs of Angelina fibers...

...then covered the surface with a second thin layer of roving (white this time).

Because I wanted the scarf to be thin and supple, but strong...

...I laid out the white wool perpendicular to the colored layer and sandwiched the yarn between them.

Next time...

...photos of the finished scarf!

How long is your pre-felt scarf and what is the finished length? I'm always curious since my knitted scarves are always super long (usually 6 ft)

Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

hope the finished product looks as nice as you want it to:)

Andrea--This one is actually pretty short. It started out a little longer than 6 ft and ended up about 4&1/2 feet long. (I made one this week that is longer, but I had to roll it up as I worked on it and that's a bit of a pain!)
Riet--Let's see what you think next time!! :)

Thanks, Terrie! Sometime we should coordinate taking a class together here in the US. It would be so much fun to meet you and spend some time felting together!!

I cannot wait to see the finished scarf....angelina always makes it sparkle! I love merino, but dislike how much it shrinks down during felting!

I know your scarf is going to be awesome. I love bold color on a white background. I am not so generous as to knit heels for a friend but I will do it for my daughter, LOL. Although I have been knitting an entire sock for the past week so I could resize the pattern a friend...Maybe I am generous after all? Can't wait to see your finished scarf. Happy Fiber Arts Friday.
